We all get by with a little help from our friends: how to link your blog with your e-mail

Saturday, March 31, 2012

Dear blog friends, lovely people who take their time and leave a comment, I thought I would help a few of you out in setting up your blog to link with your e-mail address. I have come across a few people who have left comments on my blog, with the sweetest and kindest words, and I would love to reply, just to say thank you or  write back a really long message.

But I have often found that some of these blogs are not linked up to their e-mail addresses, which besides from being frustrating, is a bit disappointing too, especially if I am so excited to reply to a message. So, I though I would show you guys how to: link your blog to your e-mail address.

Step 1: Log into blogger and look in the top right corner, it should say the name of your blog. Click on it to find the "Blogger Profile" option, then look at the top right corner again for a button that says "Edit Profile"

Step 2: Under the Privacy header, find the box that says "Show my e-mail address" and tick it.

This step makes your email public, which means that not only I, but all the other bloggers who's blogs you comment on can now reply!! YAY

Remember to save, and you are ready and set to go comment! Hoozah!

Library Love

Thursday, March 29, 2012

So I happened upon these quirky and interesting libraries the other day. I found them on facebook, so unfortunately I cannot source anyone of them. But they are still lovely to look at. And gawk. And envy.
You get where I'm going.

Clever little trick this is, but where will you find seven arbitrary ladders that no-one uses anymore? If you have ladders lying around, send them my way, this would make a perfect feature wall.

Seven questions

Wednesday, March 28, 2012

Whoa! Time for Seven Questions with Gentri Lee already? I have been quite busy the last few days, so I haven't really had the chance to really do blogposts this week. I swear I post other things than Seven Questions. But this week I am too excited about the questions and the answers that I am not going to skip it!

First up, funny photo. My mom and I are enjoying a beer!

 1. What is your favorite color TO WEAR?
Black. I know it's depressing, but it's a flattering colour.
I love a pretty black top and skinny jeans.
It's my staple.

2. You are given the choice between visiting every country and landing on the moon. Which would you choose?
I would visit every country in the world. I have serious wanderlust and I can just imagine all the things I would be able to see. I don't care about war, crime and other scary things, I am just hungry for all the different cultures and experience I would pick up in all these countries.
My first and only overseas trip was Phuket. Mind the skimpy photo.

I want to go back every single day! But I know there is still lots more to see in the world. Besides, the moon is cold and desolate! And dark.

3. What's your favorite animal and why?

Mila is my favourite animal! DO I EVEN HAVE TO SAY WHY?

4. You are forced to do one of the following, which would you choose? Sky dive, scuba dive, or this:

Yup, that's my mom! She also skydived. At 61. SUPERHUMAN

And I am way to scared of the dark and I have claustrophobia and I'm too scared of water etc to go scuba diving. Boatmen trying to be funny in Phuket threw some bananas in the water while I was snorkelling and the fish started nibbling at me. This furthered my fear of scuba diving.

But this looks pretty damn cool! I would never do it.

5. You are given the chance to go back in time. Which era would you visit?
The Roaring 20's! For my 21st, I had a great gatsby Picnic. Evidence.
Yeah, that wig. Doesn't do a single thing for me!

6. If you had the power to remove one thing (ie: flies, mosquitos, junk food) from the earth for good- what would it be?
I would love it if all animal abusers could just disappear off of the earth.
Along with hijackers.

7. What is one thing you've learned from Pinterest that made you think "GENIUS"!
The decoration ideas I have gotten. I have really learned so much about my own personal decorating style in the last few months and just having a place to put my ideas for reference is beyond freaking genius.

Quirky Pendant DIY

Monday, March 26, 2012

Guys, I found this sweet little tutorial off of this lovely blog. I can't believe I have never found this blog. I was instantly in love with it, and I was instantly in love with this DIY.

You will need:
Small wooden flower pot (check your local craft store in the wood section!), moss mat, weeds or dried flowers, paint, craft glue, necklace chain.
Pantry Supplies: Paintbrush, scissors.

First, glue both ends of the chain to the inside of the pot. Then, paint the pot the color of your choice! Lastly, line the inside with a thin layer of craft glue and fill it with moss. All done!

Not for Sensitive People

Friday, March 23, 2012

Guys, I came across the story of this little pup on St Patrick's day, and I have been thinking whether I should post about it or not. I thought it was to cruel to show it to you guys, and to expose you to the evil in society. But then I came across this post, it gave me the courage to post about it. I warn you it isn't pretty.

Seven Questions

Thursday, March 22, 2012

Another round of 7 questions from Gentri Lee has come along, go link up too, it's serious fun!

1. You're given the choice between a life with love and trials or loneliness and ease. Pick one.
Love with trials because being lonely is never fun.

2. Would you rather live in Narnia, Hogwarts, Middle Earth, or Neverland?

I would probably choose Neverland and get rid of all the Lost Boys.
Also not liking the idea of Captain Hook.
But all the others seems like they have way bigger problems than Neverland

3. Think of your dream home... what style is it?

I've always loved the Southern houses of America, those plantation houses, like this one.

But  I guess at the moment, I am living in my dream house. (That's what all new buyers say, right?)

4. What's currently your favorite song or album?
It has to be M83's Midnight City.
I swear you will be doing yourself a favour by listening to this song.

Who is the last person you hugged?
Other than Flip, it must have been my two pups!

6. You have a ticket in your hand, where is it going to take you?
It would have to be Elba, an Italian island.

7. Who is one blogger you KNOW you'd be BFF's with in real life?
Jenna from A Home Away from Home. We are real life friends already :)

Taken last year sometime on a roadtrip

Housekeeping and Sponsor call

Heya guys, some of you may or may not have noticed that I did another little change to my blog. I just felt that I needed a cleaner look, and something that wasn't as mismatched as the older look.

Before:
& after:

which one do you prefer?

I also did a little bit of twitching on my intro thingamabob on the side.

Before:

& after

Don't you just like it when things change and grow as you change and grow.
Waxing and waning.

Now onto business.

And I Say What About Breakfast at Tashas

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

I have walked by Tashas quite a lot, as it is on the way to my favourite decor shop. The place is always packed with vibey people and a number of trendsetters. And on Saturday afternoon, we decided to go and have a little brunch. I can't quite remember when it opened in Bedfordview, but we just haven't quite had the time to go here until Saturday. Was I in for a treat!

This place is so popular with the Bedfordview crowd that we had to take a number and wait about ten minutes for our table. I didn't mind, I did mention my favourite decor shop is just down the hall! So I went scouting for ideas.

Flip enjoyed himself a generous Tashas breakfast, which consisted of two eggs, two sausages, a sirloin, mushrooms, bacon and two pieces of toast. Well worth your money! And the toast was delicious, with a little smidge of apricot jam. My friends tease me that I always like to sample out of everyone's plates. And I sampled Flip's mushrooms and toast.

My breakfast was a bit more gourmet and a bit more grand sounding. I had the Bacon Rosti. Honestly, I had no idea what it was, but I didn't want to show my incompetence to the waiter and a few ears in the vicinity so I ordered it. On the menu, it said: rostis, topped with streaky bacon, oven roasted tomatoes, rocket and poached egg, topped with forestiere sauce.

So, I had no idea what rosti or forestiere sauce was, but it turned out that rostis are hash browns and forestiere sauce is some delicious mushroom thingy. I had every last bite!

The bit that looks like a big dollop of cream on top of my breakfast, is an egg.

It was a midmorning well spent! Although I couldn't even think about fitting in some dessert after my mega breakfast, I still took some shots of the lovely patisseries.

The decor is so quirky, I would love to have this light feature in my kitchen, it would definitely become a brilliant talking point over dinner. Sigh. Anybody want to sponsor me shitloads of money so I can put this in my house? haha

Puppy Love

Monday, March 19, 2012

On Saturday morning, the weather didn't really permit us to do anything but be lazy and lie on the couch.
The house was literally inside a cloud and it was quite cold.
So Flip watched the Grand Prix, and I kept myself busy with taking instagram photos of the pups.

Fast asleep.

Then I got myself a piece of biltong and they wanted in on the treat.

"Ag please mommy"

"No? No biltong? Well, then we'll just eat each other"

"Do you mind?"

This pic was taken the other day at my brother's birthday.
It was so unbelievably hot and Jethro couldn't take the heat, so he just passed out.

"We were to cocky with the city. We were taking our chances with Johannesburg," I said.
He just looked back at me, silently, still stupefied by the night's events.

Flip was hi jacked last night.
A reality to some.
A non-existent to others.

Last night, we just became another statistic in this mad country.
They held a gun to his head.
They cocked it.
"Chill", the guy said.

Chill. Are you freaking kidding me?
You! Lazy, vain, idiotic.
You would like us to chill?

He took our house keys, we didn't sleep there last night.
I'm sitting in anticipation,
wondering how much of our house will be left over when we return.

He took a diamond my mom bought me for the Millennium.

He took Flip's phone, our memories.
His wallet.

But you know what he didn't take?
Flip's life. Our hope.

I am rejoicing this morning,
I am happy.
What are material things?
Insurance will pay out.

But a life?
You can't just phone God and replace a life.
But Flip called to Him and He heard.
He protected us last night.
He gave us hope.
