I took some pics with my phone at the Rietvlei dam and thought they were just to nice not to share.

A body of water

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

There is something about water that just attracts me, whether it be the ocean, a small little pond close to your home or in this case, the Rietvlei dam, just outside Pretoria. Just don't try and get me in our own pool at home. The temperature of that thing just isn't doing it for me. I swear that it would make the Arctic ocean feel like a sauna bath.

Anyway, the Rietvlei is the perfect escape from the city. It's situated almost right next to a highway and a suburb, and you couldn't even hear a single car. It was serene and lovely! Summer isn't even here yet, but I think this would be a summer favourite.

It's the absolute serenity of water, the knowledge that you are loved, the good weather, the wind blowing slightly, just enough to cool you off, that makes one appreciate life and makes one thankful for what you have.

I am thankful for my health today. I am thankful for having a roof over my head.
For having food, friends and Flip.

What are you thankful for?

Planes, trains and automobiles

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

Most ladies would give a resounding yes if I asked them whether their boyfriends or husbands loved any of the above. It is Flip's kryptonite, particularly if it has a military theme to it. He could tell you which gun this plane, tank or jet could take, what these things were used for etc etc. You know, all very boring for a girl.

In flies the Africa Aerospace and Defense exhibition, the largest of its kind in Africa, and, well, you can guess, boys and their toys.

From a girl's perspective, who doesn't like planes and tanks, it can be a bit overwhelming. It's noisy, it's overcrowded, you are on your feet for hours on end, which means that after a while, it feels like you are dying, it can get sweltering hot, the list of complaints could be endless. But I must say that despite my maladies, I still had a good time.

From a guy's perspective: Paradise. Beer, fatty food, pretty girls, noise, guns, outside.

Man, I envy this guy's ability to eat anything he wants and to still stay as skinny as he does.
He had four of those through out the day.

We also met our friends Iris and Jaco there who bought along their lovely little face Duvané.
I'm not the only one noticing the Flip/baby ratio in recent posts and days am I?
His biological clock is ticking me thinks.

Viva Las Vegas!

Monday, October 1, 2012

Well, or something like it. I have never been in this city of lights but Friday night came pretty close.

Flip's little cousin Adri turned 21 and the theme was Las Vegas meets gatsby, meets formal, meets not so formal. The theme had a bit of an identity crisis as far as the guests garb went, but the interior met all expectations!

The birthday girl and I

I wish I had taken more photos of the decor, but there is just something about taking pics with a flash that irks me terribly. And please do excuse my boyfriend who can never pull a straight face on a photo.

The 21st bash was quite a lovely do, as a person from each table got up and gave a little speech honouring Adri. I told Flip that I don't recall people giving speeches at my 21st, and he replied, quite surprised, that even he gave a speech at his own 21st. In context, this is surprising, as Flip is not a public speaker, at all. He might have gotten some Dutch Courage.

There were a few tears, I think Afrikaans people just cry very easily and gets very sentimental at times, ie, almost my whole female side of my family gets teary eyed at baptisms. This time, the wetworks came from Flip's aunt, she was so proud of her little girl all grown up.

Little chubby cheeks here is Flip's niece Andrea. We had such a jol with her, she has so much personality!

Adri, you are a lovely, gorgeous, smart and awesome woman now
and I wish you so many happy years to come!
